TV Power Supply Repairing Tips

By Ryan Sullivan

There are a number of reasons why you might want to do a repair. One of it is that your television may be powering off on its own or it may take a long duration to get reception as soon as it is turned on. Lucky enough, this kind of issue can be solved by TV power supply repair. Before beginning, below are some of the crucial steps you need to look into.

You will need different tools to help you realize the task easily and quickly. Check if a capacitor, screwdriver, soldering iron, solder sucker, and solder are in your toolbox. If you do not have one, go to an electronics store to buy what you do not have. Use them to open the device and determine what is causing the issue. In most cases, the capacitors are the fault, and if they have leaked, the screen will not be powered.

Once the television has been unplugged from its power source, ensure you place it on a flat area with the screen facing down to prevent any damages. You can then detach all screws that have attached the back panel with a screwdriver. After all of them have been removed, you can detach the back panel by wiggling it a little bit since it is not secured with bolts and then keep it aside.

You should then determine the location of the circuit board on the device by following closely the board connected to the power cord. Detach all the connectors and screws from the board with a screwdriver. Make sure that you clearly note how they are connected for reattachment to be easy. It will be better if you take images to prevent you from being confused when reattaching them. After the screws and connectors have been detached, you can take away the circuit board.

Check to see the capacitors that are malfunctioning. Capacitors assume the shape of tiny cylinders and only vary in their length and width. Since most of them may appear normal, search for those that have bulged at the surface or are removing a brownish to yellowish liquid on the surface. This means that they have been overheated leading to the problem you are facing. Make sure that no damage is done to copper pads when removing them.

After you have removed all of them, you will have to replace them. Ensure you keep track of the negative and positive polarity as you replace them. Use your soldering iron by marking the negative lead on the board. The negative side has a gray stripe. The capacitors should be installed correctly as they are polarity sensitive. The board is clearly marked helping you to insert them correctly.

Once you have done the replacement, the device should be reassembled, and then the power checked. After the connectors have been interchanged and the bolts and back panel reattached, determine if the fault has been rectified. A power surge will definitely cause the fuse to blow. If you notice that the problem has not been fixed, consider checking its fuse. Ensure that you replace it with an appropriate one.

If none of these solves the problem, your last option is to replace the main circuit board of the device. This is because if it is damaged, the television would not work correctly. Before doing this, you should have guidance on how it should be replaced so that you do not cause further damage to the device.
